"I really didn't think there was any hope [for my marriage]. You taught me how to focus on what I can do. I know it was me that saved my relationship, but I couldn't have done it without you. Thank you!"

People in committed relationships use relationship coaching for a variety of reasons. Our relationship coaches have backgrounds in marriage and family counseling and can manage any level of relationship problems you may have. Because of this, you can be sure that the coaching you receive will be more comprehensive than what you could get with traditional marriage counseling and couples' counseling. You can use relationship coaching to:

  • Resolve a current conflict or relationship problem
  • Learn skills that will improve intimacy and communication
  • Put the fun back into your marriage/relationship
  • Learn how to deal with an uncooperative spouse/partner
  • Learn how to improve your relationship even if your partner is not yet ready to work on it.

Read below some of the differences between marriage/relationship coaching and traditional marriage counseling.

Marriage (committed relationship) Counseling vs. Marriage (committed relationship) Coaching

The main purpose of relationship counseling is to fix the problems which are causing the relationship to be dysfunctional. As long as the couple can get about their daily routine without increasingly damaging the relationship, it is considered functional.

The purpose of relationship coaching is to help one or both partners to create the very best marriage that they potentially can. This means fixing problems, but also increasing attraction, intimacy, and partnership. Counselors often do not know how to proceed once a problem has been fixed. In relationship coaching, this would just be the transition point to relationship enhancement.

Marriage counselors
often insist with working with both the husband and the wife. With marriage coaching, most of the time the husband or the wife begins the coaching without the partner. The person learns to get a sense of control in their life, to manage interactions with their partner without conflict, and to being to build the relationship.

As the relationship improves, the partner becomes more motivated to continue the progress and the relationship picks up even more steam.

The misguided idea that both people must start to make changes at the same time is what holds couples in the same bad relationship for years. If you are feeling "stuck" or "trapped," you are likely waiting for your partner to change when it is actually you who need to take action. That action should not be breaking up or divorce, but learning how to restore intimacy in your relationship. This is what relationship coaches do, full-time, every week. Life is too short to stay stuck!
