Counseling vs. coaching

About Relationship Coaching

Different from Counseling

Counseling creates a highly supportive environment to help you deal with your emotions. There are times in our life when, because of our emotions, we can't do what is best for us. Without treatment, we would deteriorate, and our life situation would become worse. People with such untreated conditions are not ready for a skills based approach like relationship coaching.

Relationship coaching takes the active, skills-focused, goals-oriented part of counseling and drops out the mental health component.  The result is less time spent on emotional support and more time learning what to do, especially in communicating and responding to other's behavior. Emotions are not ignored--rather, they are used in a more effective way.

Relationship coaching clients hit the ground running. There is no time for multiple sessions processing serious emotional issues, so this is no substitute for mental health counseling.  This is strictly for people who need to know what to do with their husband,  wife, or significant other  to turn their relationship around.

Relationship coaching is the quickest way to get relationship improvement, if you are mentally ready to take responsibility--not for problems, but for changes.  Changes to  your life, your feelings, and your relationship with your husband, wife, or committed partner.  What you do from here on out will determine what you get from here on out and it will determine what your partner gets from you.  Relationship coaching always works for the benefit of both because that is what a relationship is.

In relationship coaching you learn how to take the best and most effective skills and apply them in such a way that your life, love, and relationships move forward.  It's natural for your husband, wife, or partner to be resistant when you start relationship coaching because many counselors have recommended the end of relationships in order emotionally take care of their patients.

Progress in relationship coaching

As with anything else involving growth, it is two steps forward and one step back. That is the way humans learn.  We need to deal with difficulties along the way.  In fact, they're essential for being able to maintain your progress.  Imagine not learning to deal with difficulties . . . would that really prepare you for a great relationship, or would it leave you worrying about something going wrong?  Olympic skaters need to learn how to fall so they can not be afraid of falling and so they can get back up quickly.  Two steps forward and one step back is ideal.

When you know you can handle it, and you have prepared for it, you can do anything you desire. Having a professionally trained, highly experienced relationship coach to guide you will get you going the right way from the start, without wasting valuable time and opportunities.
